About

The Wilfrid Hansen Technical Scholarship Trust was established on May 26th, 2002, to provide assistance to a student training for a professional career in the NZ theatre and event industries.

Wilfrid Hansen was 18 when he died working at what he loved most, constructing lighting and sound for live theatre and events. He was passionate about lighting and sound, and determined to make a career in this branch of the arts. When he was still at school and painfully shy about coming forward in anything but his beloved technical area, he built his skills and made himself useful to anyone looking for help in the industry.

The trust offers an annual award to a New Zealand student studying for a career in lighting, sound or AV, to assist with study costs, tools and equipment, and industry placement.

If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, please read the selection criteria.
